Here’s our February update from Wolverhampton Volunteers.

2024 was off to a flying start with over a hundred registrations and enquiries about volunteering.

Through the WVCA Impact Volunteering fund we secured through the Heart of England Foundation, we have been able to help many organisations raise their profile and volunteering offers. Hopefully, the funding will create a sustainable basis for their volunteering activities going into 2024 and 2025.

It’s the time of year we get many enquiries from local companies around ‘Corporate and Employee Volunteering’, also known as ESV or Employer Supported Volunteering. Wolverhampton Volunteers have helped facilitate this with companies such as Marstons and Jaguar Land Rover. We are currently putting a directory together for local companies to make it easier to do this. If your organisation would like to get involved in this and can accommodate teams and individuals from local companies, let me know: peter.emms@wvca.org.uk.

What are some of the benefits of this? We would encourage you to explore this as an option as it’s a great way to promote your organisation through their company newsletters, word of mouth etc. Also, it can potentially build relationships with a local company and help with future projects, fundraising, and as we have found, a potential source of trustees for the future!

NCVO recently released their latest report on volunteering and challenges in the future ‘The Road Ahead 2024.’ This is well worth a read, details can be found here.

Our next VIO (Volunteer Involving Organisations) Network meeting is on Wednesday 24th April 10am – 12pm. This will be via MS Teams. If you are not already on our VIO mailing list and would like to attend, drop me an email over and I’ll add you.

The Wolverhampton Engage & Connect project continues from strength to strength with Dave running many sessions in February. If you’re interested in reducing social isolation in Wolverhampton, get in touch: WEC@wvca.org.uk.

And remember, let’s make 2024 a year we put volunteering back on the map!
