The Philip Bates Trust supports creative opportunities for young people under 25, helping them develop artistic skills and confidence. UK applications are welcomed, with particular interest in work based in or benefiting the West Midlands.
Who can apply:
- Schools, colleges, youth groups and organisations providing arts opportunities for under-25s. Priority goes to charities and not-for-profit organisations with a relevant community track record.
- Individuals under 25 pursuing the arts can also apply.
What you can get:
- Organisational grants are usually up to £500; individual awards are typically £100–£250. Funding is limited and the number of awards depends on the Trust’s income.
- Support is aimed at creative projects, workshops and activities developing skills and artistic confidence. Specific projects are preferred to general organisational activities.
Key notes:
- Organisations must provide two written recommendations confirming the effectiveness of their work with young people. Individuals need two actual references, not just referees’ contact details.
- Grants normally cover no more than 12 months from the award. Repeat organisational applications must concern a different project; consecutive-year awards are exceptional.
- Individual grants do not cover university or college fees or living costs. Certain one-off arts expenses may be considered.
- Apply using the Trust’s online form and linked guidelines. Explain the activity, budget, need, intended difference and fit with the Trust’s aims.
Deadline:
Next usual cut-off: Sunday 31 January 2027, ahead of the February trustees’ meeting. The published guidance uses a recurring timetable rather than separately confirmed 2027 dates. No closing time is stated; apply well before the project begins.
