The British Gas Energy Trust is offering grants of up to £1,700 to help households clear energy debt. The fund is open to all households, not just British Gas customers, especially those whose energy supplier doesn’t provide a hardship fund or whose application to such a fund has been declined.

Who can apply:

  • Households with prepayment meter debt of £50–£1,700 or credit meter debt of £250–£1,700

  • Annual household income below £18,723 or meeting vulnerability criteria (registered disabled household member, receipt of Carer’s Allowance, or caring for three or more children)

  • Evidence of recent money or energy advice within the last six months

  • Applicants who haven’t received a grant from the Trust in the last two years

The fund aims to provide lasting relief by clearing arrears in full to prevent further debt escalation. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

📌 Applications are open on a rolling basis.
