The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) has opened applications for the next round of its Community Garden Grants, supported by a £1.5 million investment from the Julia Rausing Trust.

Who can apply?

Organisations and groups running community gardening projects in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands.

What can be funded?

Projects that transform outdoor spaces, including therapeutic gardens, youth-led gardening, food-growing initiatives, or community green spaces.

Examples of previous projects

  • WHISH (Whitby & Esk Valley) – created an inclusive outdoor space for over 150 children with disabilities.

  • The Fathom Trust (Brecon Beacons) – expanded therapeutic gardening with an apothecary garden.

  • Belgrave Community Garden (Leicestershire) – turned derelict land into a vegetable patch and wildflower corridor.

Key information

In its first year, the scheme awarded £288,876 to 115 projects. Applications for the 2026 round are open until 12 noon on 20th October 2025.
