The Friends of the Elderly Grants Programme provides small grants of up to £600 to help older people living on low incomes across England and Wales. The scheme supports individuals or couples who are of or over state pension age, have savings of less than £5,000, and do not meet the criteria for other funders.

Grants can be used to cover a range of essential costs, including:

  • Purchasing household items such as fridges, cookers or furniture

  • Paying unexpected bills

  • Covering energy, gas, or electricity costs

  • Buying food or clothing

Applications are made through Referral Agents, such as local charities, housing associations, community organisations, advice services, or social services teams. Referral Agents assess the applicant’s situation and submit the application on their behalf.

Friends of the Elderly accepts applications all year round, and new Referral Agents are welcome to register at any time.
