United Nations Volunteer Event aims to transform lives in Wolverhampton
On Friday December 5th, Wolverhampton Volunteers, a project of Wolverhampton Voluntary and Community Action (WVCA) will be celebrating United Nations International Volunteer Day at the Mander Centre Lower Mall.
Under the inspiring theme “Every Contribution Matters,” the event which takes place between 10am – 12pm, will shine a spotlight on the incredible volunteers who make Wolverhampton a stronger, inclusive community. The event will feature many local voluntary organisations showcasing their volunteering opportunities.
Pete Emms, Wolverhampton Volunteers Coordinator comments, “This is a great event for anyone who wants to find out how volunteering can benefit you and your community.
“There will be over 15 organisations taking part, providing information about the work they do and difference they make to many lives across Wolverhampton. I would urge anyone who is considering volunteering or who is looking for an opportunity to make a real difference, to come along on 5th December.”
International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2025 is a global observance established by the UN General Assembly in 1985 to celebrate the power of volunteerism.
IVD is a day to celebrate volunteers everywhere and to champion the spirit of volunteerism—locally, nationally, and globally. It’s a day where the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) stands alongside UN Volunteers and more than a billion volunteers worldwide, shining a spotlight on the power of people-led solutions to tackle our shared challenges.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community comments: “Volunteering is at the heart of a thriving community. Every hour given, every skill shared, helps to build a stronger, more connected Wolverhampton. We’re proud to support International Volunteer Day and celebrate the incredible individuals who make a real difference every day. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the perfect time to get involved and see the impact you can make.”
