Petplan Charitable Trust is inviting applications for its 2025 Welfare Grants programme, aimed at improving the lives of companion animals across the UK. The fund supports projects that create meaningful, lasting change for dogs, cats, horses and rabbits — including education, rehoming, behavioural support and animal-assisted therapy where animal welfare is clearly demonstrated.

Grant amount

  • Up to £20,000 for specific projects

  • Part-funding is eligible where other secured funds can be evidenced

Who can apply

  • UK-registered charities (international work considered if the charity is UK-registered)

  • Organisations able to demonstrate responsible rehoming and good welfare standards

  • Human-focused charities where the project directly benefits animals

What they will fund

  • Projects with a direct welfare benefit to cats, dogs, horses or rabbits

  • Animal welfare education projects

  • Animal-assisted therapy, where the long-term welfare and needs of the animals are clearly planned for

  • In exceptional cases only: specific running or vet costs, where there is a clear plan to resolve hardship

What they won’t fund

  • General running costs (except in exceptional circumstances)

  • Organisations keeping rescued animals permanently rather than rehoming

  • Multiple applications from branches of large charities (only one application permitted)

Requirements

Applications must include:

  • Extracts from the most recent audited accounts

  • Labelled photographs of facilities where animals are housed

  • Veterinary surgeon reference

For building or repair projects, applicants must also show:

  • Land ownership by the charity

  • Planning permission and drawings

  • Sufficient reserves for 12 months’ operating costs

Deadline

Petplan’s Welfare Grants typically run once per year. Please check the latest deadline on their website, as timings may vary.
