Applications are now open for the 2026 Weston Charity Awards, offering ambitious frontline charities a transformational package of strategic support and unrestricted funding worth over £22,000. The awards are designed to help charities strengthen leadership, plan for long-term growth and build resilience in an increasingly challenging environment.
Delivered in partnership between the Garfield Weston Foundation and charity consultancy Pilotlight, the programme supports up to 22 charities working in the community, environment, welfare or youth sectors.
What winners receive
Each successful charity receives:

£6,500 in unrestricted funding

A place on Pilotlight 360 – a 12-month strategic mentoring and organisational development programme valued at around £16,000

Tailored support from a team of senior business experts (“Pilotlighters”) providing guidance on:

Leadership and governance

Business planning and long-term strategy
-
Income diversification
-
Volunteer recruitment and workforce development
-
Operational effectiveness and sustainability
-
This structured support has a proven impact: over 10 years of programme evaluation shows that 96% of leaders feel their charity becomes more operationally fit, with 83% reporting long-lasting benefits.
Who can apply?
Eligible organisations must be:

A registered charity (charity number required)
-
Based in the North of England, the Midlands, or Wales
-
Working in Community, Welfare, Youth, or Environmental sectors
-
Operating for at least two years
-
Led by at least one full-time paid manager
-
Generating an annual income of under £5 million
Success stories
Past winners include Murray Hall Community Trust, supporting families and communities across Sandwell and the Black Country. CEO Dr Manjula Patel described the advice offered by Pilotlighters as “a revelation… greatly valued… enabling us to galvanise ideas and think through challenges.”
Other awardees such as Carers Trust Heart of England report increased clarity, stronger leadership, and renewed confidence to drive change.
