Dear Colleagues,
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunny weather!
We have been out and about, visiting family hubs and community centres, dropping leaflets and talking to people about the city council’s draft VCS Strategy.
The document will shape how the local authority works with our VCSEF sector for years to come so it is important that you have the chance to read it and make any comments.
In response to feedback we have had so far, we have asked the council for an ‘easy read’ version, so please do contact us if you need this.
We also asked the sector when and how they would prefer the workshops and half of the respondents said they preferred online meetings with some respondents asking for one or two evening meetings.
If you can’t attend a workshop and would prefer a 1-1 or smaller focus meeting with WVCA staff, please get in touch through our website.
Have your say by attending one of these upcoming workshops – details of which you can find here.
If you have any questions, please email VCSSupport@wvca.org.uk.
Last week I attended the Penn Residents Association (PRA) meeting with colleagues from our place-based partnership One Wolverhampton. There were about 50 people there and it was very lively and information packed – we were still there at 10pm!
PRA had a lot to say about poor access to local GP services.
On a more positive note, we also heard from Dr Mariam Malik who leads the Walk with a Doc program in Penn. The free, bi-weekly events feature a 10-minute health discussion, followed by an hour-long group walk.
There’s more information here:
I also attended the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) briefing workshop on 29th June in the Mayoral Suite at the Civic Centre. The session explained the award, outlined eligibility, and guided attendees through the nomination process. It was great to see Alvina Ali from Secret Angels who were awarded last year.
The awards process itself opens for the 2027 cycle in September 2026. If you are looking to get involved or prepare for future nominations, you can monitor the Wolverhampton Mayor Facebook Page or contact the council’s mayoral team for further updates and materials. You can also contact staff at WVCA if you need any support.
There’s a lot more to say but if there are any issues that you would like to raise or anything that you would like to hear more about, please contact me.
If you would like more information, please remember to check out our website and newsletter regularly – there is always new information, and opportunities are always presenting themselves.
Thank you
Sharon Nanan-Sen
